Reflecting on the archetype of human locomotion, namely, the act of walking, from which all aesthetic movement systems have developed, the choreographer Sabine Glenz collaborated with ten performers from Hamburg’s independent scene to collectively explore the influence that the distance between us has on the way we walk and the steps we take, and how this gives rise to extensive, dynamic movement sequences or various constellations of formal sequences, e.g. geometric lines, diagonals or circles.

The performances planned for Stadtpark Hamburg are directly related to the current global coronavirus crisis, which immensely influences our form of being together and the forms of movement in public space. The choreographic aspect of proximity and distance (which has always existed) comes to light in this encounter. Parks have always had a special significance as free spaces – free space also understood in the physical sense. This freedom now seems to be restricted again. What does the appropriate park look like now and how can it open up possibilities for living together in the future?

Each of the planned outdoor performances is accessible to the public and can be viewed from all sides. Visually and acoustically, the natural state of the park remains unchanged. Music (including an original composition by Ludger Vollmer) is played individually through headphones to all participating performers and spectators – a silent performance as a social gesture.
