IJAKADI OKAN builds a bridge between the legends and stories of Nigerian Yorùbá culture and the present, between the two metropolitan cities Hamburg and Lagos.
In conjunction with live music and poetry, Israel Akpan Sunday chores the West African tradition of collective storytelling and transfers it into a present context.
Moving in the field of research in various traditional and modern African dances, he focuses on the “internal struggles” (translation of the title from the Yorùbá) and other human challenges such as dealing with stereotypes and different forms of imparting knowledge.
